Whitfield Overview
Dalton, GA in Whitfield County borders I-75 in Northwest Georgia. From this prime location, manufacturers and distributors alike are able to quickly reach customers and ports. Over 80,000 vehicles travel on I-75 through the county each day. Within a 350-mile radius you’ll also find 79 of the Fortune 1000, as well as 13 major U.S. markets.
Dalton is a manufacturing community with many international companies and well over 10 million square feet of manufacturing space in use today. Dalton is the floor covering capital of the world, but also has automotive, chemical, plastics, solar panel, and other manufacturing operations as well. The workforce knows how to do and make great things.
Dalton is served by two different rail mainlines, CSX and Norfolk Southern. Dalton is also home to one of the few dual served rail transloading facilities in Georgia, operated by both Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation. These facilities provide rail-to-truck and truck-to-rail transfer services.
Target markets include Automotive, Plastics, Food and Chemical Manufacturing.
General aviation services are available at the Dalton Municipal Airport, a full-service fixed-base operator, with a runway length of 5,500 feet. The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, located within 30 miles of Whitfield County offers non-stop service to eight locations throughout the U.S. Air cargo is also available. Airlines serving the Chattanooga airport include: Allegiant, American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta and United Airlines.
Whitfield County is home to Dalton State College with 5,044 students. As an institution of the University System of Georgia, the college offers targeted bachelor’s degrees and a full range of associate’s degrees and career certificate programs. Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) also has a new state of the art 85,000 sq. ft. facility with lab space to train up today and tomorrow’s workforce. The campus is co-located with the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy which provides technical training at the high school (secondary) level. The combination of the two schools brings a unique offering to both high school and college students. Serving both Whitfield and Murray counties with the opportunity to complete a certificate, diploma or associate degree. Programs and classes are offered day, evening, online and hybrid to meet the needs of currently employed students.
Carbondale Business Park is a shovel-ready industrial and commercial site located on I-75 in Dalton, ready for manufacturing, warehousing and distribution. Publicly owned, available lots range from 3 to 30 acres with all utilities available at the property line to serve industrial operations. Carbondale Business Park is just 30 minutes from Volkswagen in Chattanooga. In March 2012, Carbondale was designated a Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) site by Georgia Allies. Current tenants in the park are Bostik, GEDIA, and QCELLS.
