Murray Overview

Murray County is located in Northwest Georgia.  Major highways in the county include U.S. Hwy. 76 and 411 and State Hwy. 2, 61 and 225.  Rail service in the county is provided by CSX.

The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, located within 41 miles of Murray County offers non-stop service to eight locations throughout the U.S.  Air cargo is also available.  Airlines serving the Chattanooga airport include: Allegiant, American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta and United Airlines.

The Whitfield Murray Campus of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) located at the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy is also located in Whitfield County.  The combination of the two schools brings a unique offering to both high school and college students.  Serving both Whitfield and Murray counties with the opportunity to complete a certificate, diploma or associate degree.  Programs include computer support, criminal justice, business management, electronics and industrial systems.  General education classes such as math, English, psychology and reading are also offered.  All these programs and classes are offered day, evening, online and hybrid to meet the needs of currently employed students. A wide selection of community and state colleges and universities are all within a short drive.

The 29-bed AdventHealth Murray constantly strives to maintain and broaden the services offered by the medical staff which serve the community. The full-service laboratory has the most up-to-date technology and state of the art instrumentation. Lab services are available 24/7 for all diagnostic needs as well as emergency services staffed with highly trained and competent physicians and nurses.

Murray County is known as the Gateway to the Appalachians, a full one-third of the county is protected forest land. Lakes and streams crisscross the county, and together they create a wonderland of outdoor adventure including hiking, fishing, biking, camping and wildlife watching. 

The Appalachian Regional Port, opened in 2018 and is located in Chatsworth. Its service area includes North Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and parts of Kentucky. The new inland port sits on 42 acres and features on-terminal rail. The site is adjacent to U.S. 411 and features easy access to I-75. The facility handles import, export and domestic cargo.  It creates and expands international markets for regional businesses.  The port has an annual capacity of 50,000 containers. A 10-year development plan will double that capacity.
