Primex announces $5.4 million expansion and adding 28 more jobs

In the third expansion of its facility over the past three decades, the full-scope plastics manufacturer Primex is expanding its production plant and adding a new research and development center this summer.

The $5.4 million expansion will add another 25,000 square feet to the plant on Commerce Drive in Jasper, Tennessee, and add 28 more jobs, primarily in the new R&D center. Primex, which acquired the former O’Neil Color in the 1980s, will grow the plant staff to about 130 employees with its latest addition. Click here to learn more.

UTC launches new Research Institute

UTC Chancellor Steven Angle introduced the initiative and announced the institute’s initial focus areas will be transportation and quantum technologies. Some issues falling under these focus areas are electric vehicle and battery technologies, automation, infrastructure, and computing.

According to a news release sent out by UTC, some of the key responsibilities of the institute include developing research facilities and testbeds, developing strategic partnerships, and engaging the community.

Also announced was the appointment of UTC’s Mina Sartipi as executive director of the institute. Sartipi is a professor of computer science and engineering at UTC as well as the founding director of the Center for Urban Informatics and Progress, a smart city and urbanization research center that studies ways in which technology can help cities become safer, smarter, and healthier. TPC Printing & Packaging Announces $21 Million Expansion

TPC Printing & Packaging, a 99-year-old company specializing in printing and folding containers for cosmetics, spirits, fulfillment, and fashion companies, today announced a $21 million expansion in East Ridge, Tennessee, Hamilton County.

TPC plans to add more than 90 new jobs and build a new 60,000-square-foot expansion on Ringgold Road, connecting with TPC’s existing 150,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and enhancing the company’s production of high-end luxury packaging for global brands. Click here to learn more.

Kordsa plans $50 million Chattanooga expansion, adds 200 jobs

The tire nylon manufacturer Kordsa, which took over part of the former DuPont plant in Hixson nearly a decade ago, announced Tuesday it is investing $50 million to expand nylon production at its Chattanooga plant.

Kordsa Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Kordsa, said the expansion will add 200 more jobs in Chattanooga and increase its capacity to convert its products into tire cord fabric. The Chattanooga facility manufactures Nylon 66 yarn and ships it to North Carolina, where it is converted into tire cord fabric and sold to tire manufacturers across the United States. Chattanooga ranks as a top city for EV industry development

The Chattanooga region is one of the three best sites in the United States to attract new electric vehicle equipment manufacturing and jobs as a national company cites the Scenic City’s low operating costs. Of 30 metros nationally that The Boyd Co. names as poised to woo such new investment, operating costs are the lowest in the Chattanooga area. The metro’s total annual cost was put at $43,727 per employee for a 150,000-square-foot EV manufacturing facility employing 500 workers, with the location consultant calling the region the best in the central/southern U.S. Click here to learn more.

Trenton Pressing is investing $10 million and adding about 20 more employees to its workforce of 220

Trenton Pressing broke ground Thursday on a $10 million facility to expand its manufacturing. It will add 20 new jobs upon the expansion. The facility will be 105,000 square feet. It will also help the company expand its assembly services and increase its manufacturing capacity. Construction should be completed by December of this year, according to the company. They added that this expansion will allow them to better service their growth and meet manufacturing needs. Their clients include BMW, Club Car, and ZF, among others. Click here to learn more.
